Pulver’s dedication to wrestling led him to achieve two state championships while at Tahoma Senior High School in Maple Valley, Washington. He furthered his wrestling career at Highline Community College, where he earned NJCAA All-American honors. Before fully committing to mixed martial arts, Pulver also wrestled for Boise State University, where he pursued a degree in Criminal Justice. His UFC debut came on September 24, 1999, at UFC 22 against Alfonso Alcarez, which resulted in a draw. Pulver quickly rose to prominence in the UFC, capturing the inaugural UFC Lightweight Championship in February 2001 by defeating Caol Uno at UFC 30. After leaving UFC, Jens competed 13 times across a number of MMA promotions over the next four years, most notably PRIDE and Shooto. Jens returned to UFC to face Joe Lauzon at UFC® 63: HUGHES vs. PENN 2. Pulver’s announced career earnings in UFC amounted to approximately $60,000. Boxing Career

In addition to his MMA career, Pulver ventured into professional boxing in 2004. He maintained an undefeated record of 4 wins with 3 wins by knockout. This foray into boxing added to his income during a period when he was not actively competing in the UFC.

He registered a record of 27-19-1 Draw (11-9-1, – UFC / PRIDE / Shooto / WEC), securing victories over UFC Hall of Famers BJ Penn and Cub Swanson, former Shooto lightweight champion Caol Uno, The Ultimate Fighter® Season 2 tournament winner Joe Stevenson, and former WEC® featherweight champion Cole Escovedo.
