Overview

Alvin Nathaniel Joiner (born September 18, 1974), most famously known as Xzibit, is an American rapper, actor, television host, and radio personality. He began his music career with the release of his debut album, ‘At the Speed of Life’, in 1996. Xzibit gained mainstream success with his follow-up albums ’40 Dayz & 40 Nightz’ and ‘Restless,’ which featured hit singles. He has collaborated with prominent artists such as Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, and Eminem. Xzibit has also ventured into acting, appearing in films such as ‘8 Mile,’ ‘XXX: State of the Union,’ and ‘Gridiron Gang.’ He hosted the popular MTV show ‘Pimp My Ride’ from 2004 to 2007, which further increased his fame.

What Is Xzibit’s Net Worth?

Xzibit, the multifaceted American rapper, actor, and television host, has an estimated net worth of $500,000 as of February 2025. This figure reflects a career marked by both significant financial success and considerable challenges. While his career highlights include platinum-selling albums and a high-profile television hosting gig, Xzibit has also faced substantial financial setbacks, including multiple bankruptcy filings and tax debts.

Xzibit’s Financial Challenges and Career Earnings

Xzibit’s financial history is complex. In 2010, it was revealed that he owed $900,000 in delinquent federal taxes. He had previously filed for bankruptcy twice, once in July 2009 and again in January 2010, although both cases were eventually dismissed. According to his 2010 bankruptcy filing, Xzibit had $793,433 in assets but $1.4 million in debts. One factor contributing to his financial struggles was the cancellation of “Pimp My Ride” in 2007. While hosting the show, Xzibit earned just under $500,000 per year from MTV. However, in the year following the show’s cancellation, his income plummeted to $67,510.

Ironically, despite hosting “Pimp My Ride,” Xzibit did not own a car during the show’s run. Instead, he rented a 2006 Range Rover at a cost of $2,230 per month.

In July 2022, during divorce proceedings, Xzibit stated that he had not worked in a major capacity since 2019, attributing his reduced income to the cancellation of live shows due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He also claimed his ex-wife, Krista Joiner, earned $175,000 per year and resided in their former marital home. Xzibit alleged that he was struggling financially while trying to maintain his public image and provide for his son.

In February 2025, Krista Joiner filed an updated request for increased child and spousal support, seeking a total of $30,000 per month. She claimed Xzibit owed her $750,000 in arrears and requested $300,000 for attorney’s fees. Krista justified her request by asserting that Xzibit’s average monthly income was $134,000, significantly higher than the previously assumed $25,000.

Krista also alleged that Xzibit had a stake in several cannabis companies, generating approximately $1 million per month in cash, stored in “bank-sized vaults” across the country. She claimed his brother had helped him store as much as $20 million in cash in these vaults.

Despite his financial difficulties, Xzibit’s career has been marked by significant earnings and opportunities. His peak salary from “Pimp My Ride” was $497,175 per year. He also appeared in 38 episodes of the TV show “Empire” from 2016 to 2019, as the character Shyne. He threatened to sue ViacomCBS for scrubbing his likeness off their official “Pimp My Ride” merchandise so they wouldn’t have to pay him royalties. He claimed his music was removed from episodes of the show on streaming and syndication.

Early Career and Musical Success

Born Alvin Nathaniel Joiner on September 18, 1974, in Detroit, Michigan, Xzibit began rapping at age 10 to cope with the loss of his mother. At 14, he was removed from his home and, at 17, left state care on his own recognizance. He moved to Los Angeles, California, to pursue his music career.

Xzibit’s first professional appearance was in February 1995 on the Alkaholiks’ “Coast II Coast” album, on the song “Hit and Run.” He signed with Loud Records and released his debut album, “At the Speed of Life,” in October 1996. The album reached No. 74 on the Billboard 200 and No. 38 on the Canadian Albums Chart. His breakthrough single, “Paparazzi,” achieved significant success in Germany.

His second album, “40 Dayz & 40 Nightz,” released in 1998, was critically acclaimed and spawned four successful singles, including “What U See is What U Get.” This album solidified his presence in West Coast hip-hop.

Xzibit’s career reached new heights with his third studio album, “Restless,” released in 2000. Dr. Dre served as executive producer, and the album featured guest appearances from Snoop Dogg, Eminem, and other prominent artists. “Restless” sold nearly 2 million copies and was certified platinum, producing three singles. He made his acting debut in 1999 when he starred in “The Breaks.”

In 2002, Xzibit guest-starred on the comedy series “Cedric the Entertainer Presents” and released his fourth studio album, “Man vs. Machine.” The album went gold, but its singles failed to chart. Throughout his career, Xzibit has collaborated with numerous high-profile artists, including Eminem, Cypress Hill, Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, Timbaland, and Alice Cooper.

After a four-year hiatus, Xzibit released “Urban Ammo 2” in March 2011 with Extreme Music. In 2012, he released his album “Napalm.”

“Pimp My Ride” and Other Ventures

From 2004 to 2007, Xzibit hosted the MTV show “Pimp My Ride,” which brought him international mainstream fame. Ironically, Xzibit claimed that the show actually cost him money because he was unable to tour during production, and his salary per episode was not significant. However, the show did make him a household name.

After “Pimp My Ride,” Xzibit starred in more movies and had guest spots on crime TV series. It was announced in February 2016 that he would be joining the cast of “Empire” as the character of Shyne, and he appeared in 38 episodes from 2016 to 2019.

Xzibit has announced his eighth studio album, “King Makers,” slated for release in 2021.

Real Estate and Personal Life

In 2003, Xzibit purchased a 3,160-square-foot home in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, for $670,000. He attempted to sell the home for $1.2 million in 2008 but eventually sold it for $610,000 in December 2010.

Xzibit married Krista Joiner on November 29, 2014, in Laguna Beach, California. On the night of his wedding, he was arrested for DUI. Krista filed for divorce in February 2021. Together, they had two children, Xavier and Gatlyn. Tragically, Xavier was born prematurely on May 15, 2008, and died eleven days later. Xzibit also has another son from a previous relationship, Tremaine Joiner, born in June 1995.

Gumball 3000 Rally

Xzibit participated in the Gumball 3000 rally in 2007, driving a black Jaguar XJ220. On the first day, Dutch police seized his driver’s license for speeding. He competed again in the 2013 and 2014 Gumball 3000s.
