He began his career with Atlas in 1996 before moving to Monaco in 1999, where he won the Ligue 1 title. In 2003, he joined Barcelona, becoming the first Mexican to represent the club and winning numerous titles, including four La Liga titles and two Champions League titles. He later played for the New York Red Bulls, Club León, and Hellas Verona before returning to Atlas and retiring in 2018. Márquez also had an impressive international career, earning 147 caps for Mexico and captaining the team in five FIFA World Cups. Currently, he serves as the assistant coach for the Mexico national team.
