He is widely recognized for his seven seasons on Saturday Night Live (SNL) from 1986 to 1993, where he created iconic characters such as the Church Lady and Garth Algar, and for his impersonation of President George H.W. Bush. Before his success on SNL, Carvey honed his skills in stand-up comedy and played minor roles in television and film. His film career took off with “Wayne’s World” (1992) and its sequel, where he starred as Garth alongside Mike Myers. Beyond SNL and film, Carvey has remained active in stand-up comedy and co-hosts the podcast “Fly on the Wall with Dana Carvey and David Spade” since 2022. He was raised in a Lutheran household and moved to San Carlos, California, at a young age. Carvey attended San Francisco State University, where he won the San Francisco Stand-up Comedy Competition.
