Teddy Wayne Gentry, born on January 22, 1952, is an American musician and singer, widely recognized as a founding member and the bass guitarist and background vocalist for the iconic country band Alabama. Formed in 1969 in Fort Payne, Alabama, Alabama achieved massive success in the 1980s, with 27 country No. 1 hits and numerous awards. Gentry co-founded the band with his cousin Randy Owen, later joined by Jeff Cook. Before achieving stardom, they toured as Young Country and Wildcountry. They signed with RCA Records in 1977. Gentry has co-written many of Alabama’s hits, including “How Do I Fall In Love,” “Why Lady Why,” and “My Home’s In Alabama.” Beyond music, Teddy Gentry is involved in Bent Tree Farms, a cattle business. He purchased his grandfather’s farm in 1980 and developed an interest in the cattle business, expanding the farm in 1981. He also founded Creative Cafe. Alabama was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2005. Gentry remains an influential figure in country music.
