Before teaming up with Bacharach, David wrote hits like “American Beauty Rose” and “Broken Hearted Melody.” He also collaborated with other composers, including Albert Hammond on “To All the Girls I’ve Loved Before.” David served as president of ASCAP from 1980 to 1986 and was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1972.
