Rudd was born in Melbourne, Australia, to Lithuanian parents. He began playing drums as a teenager and played in several local bands before joining AC/DC in 1975. His drumming style is known for its solid and uncomplicated approach, providing the backbone for AC/DC’s hard rock sound. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003 along with the other members of AC/DC. Besides his music career, Rudd owns a marina restaurant called Phil’s Place in Tauranga, New Zealand, where he resides. He had a hiatus from AC/DC between 1983 and 1994 but rejoined the band and continued to be a member until 2015, returning again in 2018. Over the course of his career, Rudd has been an integral part of AC/DC’s success, contributing to numerous hit albums and world tours.
