Mary Austin is an English woman best known for being the former girlfriend and close confidante of Freddie Mercury. She met Mercury in 1969, and they were romantically involved from 1970 to 1976. Even after their romantic relationship ended due to Mercury’s revelation about his sexuality, they remained incredibly close friends. Mercury even referred to her as his ‘common-law wife.’ Upon his death in 1991, Mercury left the majority of his estate to Austin, including his London mansion, Garden Lodge, and his ongoing share of Queen’s royalties. In recent years, Austin has managed Mercury’s estate and has also made headlines for auctioning off many of his personal belongings, with a portion of the proceeds going to charity. She was portrayed by Lucy Boynton in the film ‘Bohemian Rhapsody.’
