Toni-Ville Henrik Virtanen (born July 17, 1975), most famously known as Darude, is a Finnish DJ and record producer. Darude started making music in 1995 and gained international recognition with the release of the platinum-selling hit single “Sandstorm” in late 1999. His debut studio album, Before the Storm, was released in 2000 and sold 800,000 copies worldwide, earning him three Finnish Grammy Awards. Darude represented Finland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2019. He began his music career using PC tracker software and later moved on to more advanced production techniques. The name Darude came from playing the song “Rude Boy” repeatedly at a classmate’s party, leading to the nickname “Rude Boy,” which evolved into “Da Rude” and finally “Darude.” Darude co-founded the record label EnMass Music in 2011.
