What Is Taylor Hawkins’ Net Worth?

At the time of his death in March 2022, American musician Taylor Hawkins had accumulated a net worth of $40 million. His financial success was primarily attributed to his career as the drummer for the rock band Foo Fighters, his solo projects, and other musical endeavors.

Taylor Hawkins’ Early Life and Career Beginnings

Oliver Taylor Hawkins was born on February 17, 1972, in Fort Worth, Texas. In 1976, his family moved to Laguna Beach, California. He attended Laguna Beach High School. As a teenager, Hawkins was influenced by Stewart Copeland of The Police, Roger Taylor of Queen, and Jane’s Addiction. His early musical journey included playing with Jon Davison, the current singer of Yes, in several bands, most notably a cover band called Heavy Industry. This band performed at high school dances and even a wedding. Hawkins later played in bands that emulated Jane’s Addiction and joined the experimental band Sylvia before becoming the drummer for Sass Jordan. He then toured with Alanis Morissette.

Taylor Hawkins’ Career with Alanis Morissette and Joining Foo Fighters

Hawkins played drums for Alanis Morissette during her “Can’t Not” tour in 1995 and 1996. He was featured in several of her music videos, including “You Oughta Know,” “All I Really Want,” and “You Learn.” Hawkins worked with Morissette for 18 months before receiving a call from Dave Grohl. In 1996, Foo Fighters were recording their second album, “The Color and the Shape.” Due to conflicts with then-drummer William Goldsmith, Grohl re-recorded the drum tracks himself. Goldsmith left the band, and Grohl contacted Hawkins, expecting him to recommend another drummer. Surprisingly, Hawkins expressed his own interest in joining Foo Fighters and officially became a member on March 18, 1997.

Taylor Hawkins’ Career with Foo Fighters

Hawkins’ addition to Foo Fighters proved pivotal. Alanis Morissette had predicted this move a year prior. Initially, Foo Fighters played smaller venues and opened for bands like the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Over 23 years, Foo Fighters became a major rock band, selling out venues like Wembley Stadium in London for two nights in 2008, each accommodating approximately 86,000 fans. Beyond drumming, Hawkins also sang, played guitar, and piano. His first lead vocal for the Foo Fighters was a cover of Pink Floyd’s “Have a Cigar.” He sang lead on the original song “Cold Day in the Sun” from “In Your Honor” and “Sunday Rain” from “Concrete and Gold” (2017). Foo Fighters’ live shows often featured Hawkins on lead vocals for cover songs. He also contributed to songwriting.

Taylor Hawkins’ Side Projects and Collaborations

In 2006, Hawkins released a self-titled LP with his side project, Taylor Hawkins and the Coattail Riders. At Live Earth in 2007, he performed with the SOS Allstars, including Roger Taylor of Queen and Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Hawkins also appeared on Slash’s solo album “Slash” (2010), providing background vocals on “Crucify the Dead,” featuring Ozzy Osbourne. During Foo Fighters’ breaks, Hawkins played in a cover band, Chevy Metal, performing lesser-known tracks by bands like ZZ Top, Aerosmith, and Queen. Chevy Metal continues to play at county fairs and pizza places in the Los Angeles area. Foo Fighters bandmate Chris Shiflett later joined Chevy Metal, and Dave Grohl occasionally makes appearances. Get the Monkey, the most recent album by Taylor Hawkins and the Coattail Riders, was released in November 2019 and featured guest vocals from LeAnn Rimes and Perry Farrell of Jane’s Addiction.

Taylor Hawkins’ Album Contributions with Foo Fighters

During his time with Foo Fighters, Hawkins contributed to eight albums: “There Is Nothing Left to Lose” (1999), “One by One” (2002), “In Your Honor” (2005), “Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace” (2007), “Wasting Light” (2011), “Sonic Highways” (2014), “Saint Cecilia” (2015), and “Concrete and Gold” (2017). Posthumously, he received three Grammy awards with the Foo Fighters in April 2022. Foo Fighters announced their first album since his death, “But Here We Are,” released in June 2023. Hawkins also participated in documentaries such as “Back and Forth,” “Sound City,” and the HBO series “Sonic Highways.”

Taylor Hawkins’ Personal Life

Hawkins married Alison Hawkins in 2005, and they remained married until his death in 2022. They had three children: Oliver, Shane, Annabelle, and Everleigh. The Hawkins family resided in Hidden Hills, California. In 2001, Hawkins overdosed on heroin and was in a coma for two weeks. In 2005, Axl Rose attempted to recruit Hawkins for a new version of Guns N’ Roses, but Hawkins, after consulting with Roger Taylor of Queen, decided to remain with Foo Fighters. Taylor’s son, Oliver Shane, paid tribute to his father by performing “My Hero” with the Foo Fighters at Wembley Stadium, a performance streamed live on YouTube and Paramount+ and later honored with the “Drum Performance of the Year” award at the Drumeo Awards.
