Born on October 14, 1978, in Dallas, Texas, he spent much of his early life in Chattanooga, Tennessee before moving to Atlanta. Usher began singing in church choirs as a child and quickly gained attention for his talent. At the age of 12, his mother helped him enter local singing competitions, which eventually led to a contract with LaFace Records. Usher released his debut album in 1994 at the age of 15.
